With 20 years in the addiction treatment field, I’ve worked alongside incredible organisations and individuals who have shaped my understanding of recovery. But I’ve also encountered practices that left me frustrated, disillusioned, and even angry. My Journey: From Addiction to Advocacy
My experience isn’t just professional—it’s deeply personal. I’m a 59-year-old man from the UK, and I know firsthand the struggles of multi-substance addiction, mental health challenges, and childhood trauma. I’ve been street homeless more times than I care to remember. But through the 12-step model of recovery, professional therapy, and the right support, I’ve been completely abstinent for 20 years.
I’ve also learned that recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. While I advocate for abstinence and the 12-step model, I recognise that different people need different approaches. Complete abstinence isn’t the only solution. Some individuals struggle with certain substances but can manage others. The key is finding a personalised path to healing – something NEOVIVA understands better than most.
Why I Left Traditional Treatment Programmes
Over the years, I worked my way up from a volunteer to a service manager of an 181-bed supported housing charity and later to a director of operations for another organisation. But despite my passion, I became disillusioned.
I witnessed unethical practices, hidden policies driven by greed, and decisions that put profit over people. I had enough. So, I shifted my focus to working one-on-one with high-net-worth individuals who needed authenticity, discretion, and genuine care during their recovery.
